KITTRELL PROJECT

There were two trips made to Kittrell.  Through all of Hurricane Irene's fury, I made the trip on Saturday, August 27th. Items that had been collected at our August 6th meeting were presented to Dr. Sparrow and the members of Job Corps.

They could not believe we had thought enough of them to bring so much.  Then they were shocked to learn that Ms. Emma Devine was going to be at the graduation ceremony on the following Tuesday and bring more items.  Director, Ms. Robinson was overwhelmed.

Many pictures were taken of the boxes of "goodies". I was told that the items will be greatly appreciated by the students, especially those who have come with barely nothing more than the clothes on their backs.  Once their newsletter is printed, I was promised to get a copy that I will make available to the WNCC Lay.

I was able to tour the campus and meet some of the students from Job Corps.  They were getting ready for an inspection on Monday by the Department of Labor.  The place was so clean you could have eaten off the floor.  All of the work is done by the students.

If you are still collecting items, you can bring them to the next meeting or take to one of the "drop off" locations.  We will continue to collect throughout this Conference year and make arrangements to get the items to Dr. Sparrow.  At the October 8th meeting, it was suggested we make another delivery before the end of the year.  Ms. Devine gave a report about the situation with the Job Corps students who are located at Kittrell.  She stressed the need to help them as much as we can.  To the question that was asked about how the items are distributed, she explained about the room that Ms. Robinson has set aside to house the donations.  The items are then given to those students who need them.  The Director is aware of the situations of each of the students who arrive at Job Corps.

We are targeting the 3rd of November for all donations to be collected so that we can make the trip. The "drop off" churches are St. Paul in Raleigh, Emmanual in Durham, Bethel in Greensboro, Springdale in Burlington and Gaston Chapel in Morganton.

Feel free to contact me if you should have any questions or cannot get to one of the locations listed above.

As always, thanks so much for all you do for the WNCC Lay Organization.
